Thanksgiving is on the way. Wow, this is time for another college friends reunion. Cong flew to Pittsburgh from Atlantic. After picking him up at the airport, we started our east coast trip.

First station is Boston. You will never find a road trip boring if traveling with friends. After hours of chatting, we stopped at a Days Inn along the way to rest the night. We are so close to New York that one of Cong's friends working there actually drove over to play poker with us. The next day, we arrived at Boston around 10am in heavy wind and cold temperature. Boston is a nice city. One of my friends told me that she thought it might be among the safest places in US, until the explosion months ago. But still,  the city got a good impression on me. A big but not so crazy city harbors two top-notch universities and many others, multiple enterprise headquarters and part of the American history. We met with one of bmp's friends Ming there who just moved to Boston for a postdoc position at MIT. Then we requested to go and visit MIT and Harvard with our one-day limited time. As Ming said, MIT is not quite like an university, resembles a company type,or an integration of many different companies. Everyone on campus seems to be on a hectic way to something. Ming shared that he only planed to stay here for couple of months and do his utmost to learn from his current MIT lab, no extended stay because this place is full of pressure. Maybe because of this, what I sensed later became more pressure, less amazement. During my freshman year, one of the boys from my high school class told me that MIT is the paradise of mechanical engineering and he would visit me if I go there someday. Then now, I stood in MIT but not so motivated with the vision of going school here. Again I realized that engineering stuff didn't intrigue me that much. But I am sure this is the perfect place for those who are passionate about what I have little interest. Here you compete with the world's top talent, get access of numerous advanced technology and the non-stop motivation from your inner within and peers will always push you to succeed. I see how MIT becomes MIT. One side of the school lies the ocean and it has a quite flat view. Feeling the gentle breeze, following trace of the seagulls, embracing nature and architecture here, the invisible power of knowledge will certainly move you. After several minutes' driving, we arrived at Harvard. I have to admit that this place attracts me way more.

With 377 years of history, Harvard appeals people with its ancient elegance and literal beauty. Most of the building is composed of grey stone or red brick, preserving their original colors, like the way they preserve Harvard spirit, which I grasped the moment I stepped into this university. Streets on campus are very quiet and clean. Dormitories along the street open their window to solemn trees and lovely pedestrians along the road. Having a room like this in Harvard must be an awesome part of student life. The place of highest interest for me is the library. Part of the reason is that the Harvard library is regarded as the legendary place where students study even during the mid of the night and words posted on the wall are of extreme motivational value. How I longed to step inside and see whether the stories people shared on QQ zone is true or not. Unfortunately, no Harvard ID, no access. Therefore, I can never verify it this time although I am getting this close. As a literary lover, I believe Harvard is a perfect place to pursue something you love and spend your college time. Again with our limited time, my friend suggested to visit the statue of its founder. It has now become a historic spot where people take pictures to record their Harvard visiting moment. Will that person ever know how many people he has changed with this university? Education is great power.

Finally, we headed for the Boston China town and ended our visit with my favorite hot pot. Unfortunately, we were not able to buy lobster or other seafood from any Boston supermarket and cook at home for a really bargain according to my friend is $10 for each lobster. Maybe a future time :) By the way, although we had other Boston plans, the weather that day was just insanely cold. Plus high buildings on the street just can not seem to block any small pieces of wind. Everyone of us was armed from head to toes but still cannot bear the low temperature and strong wind that seems to blow us away some time. In moment like this, I just miss the coziness at home.

Next station is New York. New York, New York!
